Hurst Ranch Feeds & Fencing in Jamestown CA
Farmers can have fun, too. And you don’t have to be a farmer to have fun at Hurst Ranch. It may sound like it’s for farmers and ranchers only, but Hurst is for the outdoors person in all of us.
Feeds and fencing are just the beginning of what Hurst provides. See what else this hidden gem has to offer by reading on. They have been around 40+ years in our community.
Out West at the Hurst Ranch
The feed store is there for all of your farming needs. Besides that, Hurst has wine, olive oil, a wedding venue, and more.
Let’s start with the Depot. It’s the railroad station in Clint Eastwood’s movie, The Unforgiven.
In real life, it now serves coffee, honey, olive oil, cheese, and vinegar. It even has wine tastings, too. All of these are locally sourced.
The Depot will make you a gift basket upon request. It has all the staples as well, from toiletries to accessories.
Apart from the Depot, there’s always an upcoming event at Hurst Ranch. Although it’s currently postponed due to the coronavirus, Yoga in the Barn features yoga, beer, and live music.
Over the last two Saturdays of October, from 10 am to 3 pm, there’s a Fall Festival. Enjoy a hot dog and soda at the festival, along with a hay maze, train rides, and a pumpkin patch. Or check out Yoga In The Barn.
The Wild West
Let’s return to something mentioned earlier: olive oil.
The good folks at Hurst get their olive oil the old-fashioned way. They pick in November, bring it to the Valley to press it, and store it for three months in a bottle.
Some years, you can bring your bottle back and get a refill for half the price. In other years, Hurst typically sells out without customers being able to get a refill.
You can recognize good oil in a few ways. It should have a bit of a bite, as well as being slightly bitter and peppery.
It should coagulate when cold. If it doesn’t firm up when refrigerated, then it’s likely not the real deal.
The ranch has various chickens, from Ameraucanas to Wyandottes. It almost always has Rhode Island Red hens in stock.
Hurst also is your picture-perfect destination for any wedding or shooting of a commercial or movie.
Finally, the ranch has a full-fledged vineyard. With rich soil and abundant sunshine, the grapes are of sterling quality and low yield.
All are grown at the ranch, where the wine is stored for 20-22 months before bottling. It’s then transferred to a cave for storage.
The Glamorous Farm Life
You’re going to need a place to stay the next time you visit Hurst Ranch because you’ll be exhausted from all there is to do. It may be the most multi-dimensional ranch on earth.
It’s a winery, a wedding venue, a yoga studio, and so much more, all wrapped into a convenient package. There’s nothing like it. Better yet, it’s so close to a spacious and comfortable vacation rental cabin in nearby Twain Harte, CA.
